Orysia Riesen
During the day, she is a mild-mannered graphic and web designer for the State of California. By night, she sketches, paints, bakes, writes and overall just enjoys expressing her imagination in whatever form it might take. Her design work is featured in many forms throughout California and her art has found its way into many new homes.
Nature is Orysia's biggest inspiration. She enjoys simplifying the flowers and plants she finds in her garden and along the California coast to their basic, organic forms much in the same way she does when creating a logo in her design work. Her use of bright colors and contrast can be seen in the paintings of flowers (hana) and carp (koi); whereas her paintings of fire (ka), air (ki) and water (mizu) are intended to provide the feeling of motion and freedom. There is always art that does not fall into any particular category, but provides an integrated interruption, or interval (ma) to the other expressions she creates.
Orysia hopes that her paintings will bring the same sense of free emotion and joy to those who view them, as much as it does for her when she created them.
